The Copa do Brasil is the second biggest national championship, behind only our well-known “Brasileirão”.

Founded in 1989, the Copa do Brasil has always promised a lot of excitement from the first game to the last, even more so due to the format of the competition.

First of all, between 80 and 100 teams are selected to play against each other.

The games in this initial phase are one-way, that is, a single game to define the result.

Therefore, in order not to be unfair, in the event of a draw the victory will be given to the visiting club.

After this first phase, the bigger clubs are inserted and, finally, we will start the phase with round-trip games.

In conclusion, what makes this championship so electrifying, besides the money involved and the cup, is that the champion is guaranteed a place in the Libertadores.

The selection of teams that participate in the Copa do Brasil is made by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

Therefore, the CBF itself invites clubs from all Brazilian states to participate in the competition.

The selection is made according to several criteria, such as:

In addition, there are exclusive places for teams that stood out in the state championships.

Finally, we have the last and one of the most important criteria, which is the club's placement in the FIFA Team Ranking.
